  The objective of the course is the development of English language competences in a thematic framework, with the acquisition of specialized terminology. The subject makes teachers aware of the high level of both mother tongue competences and English proficiency, and the knowledge of the language proficiency of neighbouring nations, raising awareness in multilingualism, multiculturalism and the vanishing of borders.

  The course touches upon issues of the theoretical and practical aspects of language policies. The material is built up of authentic texts in English, dealing with the following topics: linguistic rights, minority rights, language protection, the legal framework of language use, official language, working language, procedural language, regional languages and cultures, the protection of ethnic minorities, the language policies of the EU, regulations in different institutions, translation work on the institutions of the EU.
