This subject familiarize the students with the biochemical bases of vital processes (cell- and organ functions, metabolism) and teaches the biosynthetic and breakdown pathways with special attention to the chemo-preventive aspects of health promotion
Tartalom angol
Proteins, protein fibrils. Hem proteins, oxygen transport. Proteins of the blood plasma. Overview of metabolism (basic concepts). Enzymes, enzymatic reactions, phase I and II enzymes. Basics of bioenergetics. Photosynthesis. Strategies in regulation and catalytic processes. Oxidative phosphorylation. Metabolism of carbohydrates. Lipid metabolism. Synthesis and breakdown of amino acids and proteins. Nucleotide metabolism. Biotransformation (detoxification). Regulation of metabolism. Biological membranes, biochemistry of membrane transport. Biochemical bases of the functioning of organs and body system (neurotransmission, muscle function, effects of hormones). Mitochondria and the electron transport. Biochemical bases of the functioning of the sensory organs. Oxidative stress, oxidative stress diseases. Antioxidants and their mode of action. The role of nutrition in the developments of pathological symptoms. Chemoprevention and its role in the inhibition of pathological processes. Let us ageing in a healthy way.
