The aim of the course is to provide students with a general overview of the basic themes and issues of History of Romany; and Society and Lifestyls of Hungarian Roma and Gypsy Communities.

Tartalom angol

Majority society and minorities. National and ethnical minorities in present-day Hungary. The concept of identity, free choice of identity, signs of identity. Judgements and arguments related to the definition of Gypsies. Employment and earning strategies of Hungarian Gypsies. The world of work, the problem of increasing unemployment. Lifestyle characteristics of the Gypsies and the social conflicts stemming from them. . History of the Hungarian Role of media in forming public opinion about Romanies. Role and reliability of the government, local authorities, education and humor in the increasing or decreasing prejudice against the Romanies.
